When I was little, one of my favorite things was to combine color pencils in a variety of ways. I think that “practice” honed my addiction to combining colors, textures, and shapes. I clearly remember my love for mixing yellow and lime green; green being my favorite color!
I wore this outfit for work on a very sunny day. Naturally, I took off the straw hat for class, but the vintage ribbon was a perfect match during the day. By the way, my hat is by Wyeth, and it comes with a leather band and “ribbon”, but I have a variety of ribbons for all of my hats, and switched it for the outfit.
Basically, I’m wearing vintage things that I already have had in my closet for years! If you have followed me for a while, you know I am very sustainable, and love wearing and re-wearing all of my clothes. The skirt is old Talbots; the cotton pique jacket is old POLO Ralph Lauren; the bejeweled ballet flats are super vintage Bellofatto; and my wicker and leather basket handbag is vintage. I added a custom laser-cut monogram on top for a personalized touch, which adds lots of charm, in my opinion.
The sunglasses are a super cheap option from Amazon, and are a great option for the beach too. For jewelry, I went with a massive, antique real amber necklace and paired it with pre-ban ivory bangles (mixed with vintage, 1940s Bakelite ones) and a pre-ban ivory ring, both from the 1920s. My earrings, however, deserve their own description!
They are vintage (1980s) pieces by fellow Gemini, Joan Rivers. As any Gemini will attest, we loooove versatile pieces that can be used in a variety of ways so, naturally, this feisty Gemini designed these earrings with changeable stones, which is pretty genius! They originally came with 6 rounds, but I had a bunch more custom-cut for my by a jeweler, and I currently own about 14 in total! Honestly, I love them all! I also had them altered to a post back, since they are clip-ons; a pretty easy change. This time around, I’m wearing them with orange carnelian, which resembles the darker amber beads pretty closely, and also matches the orange Bakelite well.
