A Key to the Armoire - A Personal Style Blog by Susana Fernandez

Are you ready for Spring? If you are, the next big celebration is Easter, and I have already seen quite a few bunnies coming out of hibernation in social media, so I figured, it was time to share this lovely Easter table that I had not been able to share due to the pandemic.

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen this table last year. I really LOVED styling it because I was very lucky to receive these marvelous botanical placemats from the extremely talented botanical watercolor artist, Sena Cifuentes, who generously sent them to me from Spain.

Sena has amazing taste, incredible talent, and is the sweetest person, to boot! These acrylic placemats of her watercolors come with a black or a creamy white background, and a variety of floral combinations. To be honest, it was VERY difficult to choose because they were all so lovely. She also has other botanical designs, including a variety of insects and other animals, which you can shop here. All her compositions have a touch of whimsy that makes her creations extremely coveted and super chic! It is no wonder that she won the silver medal of the Royal Horticultural Society of London for her naturalistic watercolor techniques!

I’m sure you will ADORE her work and if, like me, you are a lover of tablescapes, you will fall hard for her exquisite placemats, all of which you can find here. Be sure to follow Sena’s adventures on her Instagram, here, and for more of her artwork, here.

Now, let me tell you how I styled the table to highlight Sena’s gorgeous placemats!

The first thing I did is focus on the color scheme, which was naturally dictated by the placemats. Black is not a color most people associate with Easter, but it is a very elegant color that looks particularly chic with lots of green. The orange berries and white flowers dictated the rest. Carrots are orange, which was a no-brainer, and white made the whole table stand out effortlessly, don’t you think?

For the centerpiece, I relied on this very old flower pot that has a simulated “crack” showing the bottom of some carrots, with cute, little bunnies eating them. Therefore, I added some silk carrots to the pot, and arranged some additional greenish tulips and white blossoms, alongside my “grassy” bunnies and other botanical elements, such as artichokes, birdnests, little birds, and my signature orange Monarch butterflies.

As I mentioned, I decided on a crisp white tablecloth to let the placemats take stand-out, but added vintage, white-embroidered, green napkins to accent the green. This lighter green matched the green of the leaves on the Godinger “Jardin” plates. I chose this china because I wanted a garden feel of strewn leaves in the middle of an orchard, and it worked perfectly!

Because the edge is gold, I went with gold Godinger “Chateau” flatware, and antique water goblets and juice tumblers from the early 1920s. The black-footed ones are by Glastonbury/Lotus in the Mcguire Black pattern, while the green-footed tumblers are, most likely, also by Glastonbury/Lotus. Both are needle-etched, which is my favorite kind of engraving because it looks so delicate. I finished the tablescape with two Baldwin brass candlesticks topped with vintage, cased glass shades that complemented the setting perfectly.

Our Easter brunch included scones, which is why I loved using the individual scone domed warmers instead of bread plates. I certainly hope this table inspires you to begin planning your Spring and Easter tablescapes and, of course, I hope you enjoyed seeing it as much as I enjoyed sharing it with you!
