A Key to the Armoire - A Personal Style Blog by Susana Fernandez

Today, I am featuring what I think is a fantastic resource for those of us who like to set a beautiful table! I have partnered with Set with Style, a South Florida store that specializes in elegant, disposable tableware with an amazing variety that also includes gifts and other table essentials. Although Set with Style is in South Florida, they do ship everywhere, so be sure to check them out!

But let me tell you why I think disposable tableware is such a great resource. Let’s face it, sometimes you don’t want to feature expensive china when you’re setting up a party for children, yet you don’t want to sacrifice style and elegance. Or, for example, you want to set up a large pool-side party that is as chic as a Slim Aarons picture. Enter elegant, disposable tableware! It is definitely not your old-time “blah” white plastic! These flatware pieces and plates will have you looking twice and wondering if they are “real” china and flatware! They are not flimsy and come in so many shapes and colors that you will surely find anything your tablestyling soul desires!

For this collaboration, I chose grayish, wood-grain chargers (that are not disposable!) with gold-rimmed, scalloped pink plates and matching bread or dessert plates. For contrast, I added antique Hutschenreuther floral plates that look perfectly at ease among the disposable ones, don’t you think? I also chose to highlight the gold rim of the plates by featuring gold flatware with gold-flecked transparent handles. They are so good, aren’t they? You can also get the teaspoons and dessert forks. I also received these adorable blossom napkin rings (also not disposable!) that I am sure I will use again and again. Not featured (but will feature soon!) are these pink mirror chargers that are amazing too. You can find all these pieces in the the Set with Style store!

To finish the tablescape, I chose this cotton Ralph Lauren Home tablecloth in a decidedly Spring print, and simply added a few enamel flowers from my “indoor garden” as part of the centerpiece. For contrast, I used French blue linen napkins by Villeroy & Boch, a mix of clear and pink etched stemware. The pink tumblers are Morgantown, from the 1920s, while the clear ones are more modern. I also used a Baldwin brass candlestick with a Homco peg votive shade.

I don’t think I had ever featured a patio tablescape on the blog, and I’m not sure why, as it is an area we use often. It is so relaxing to sit there at all times of day, but it is particularly lovely for dinner, in the evening. Because today was a bit chilly, I added a couple of Scottish wool throws by Abraham Moon. The floral needlepoint pillows are by Ralph Lauren Home, and the tapestry ones, with the topiaries, are British, by Hines of Oxford. The lemon topiary is Bassano ceramic, from Italy.

We had a lazy, easy Sunday brunch, and it never felt like we were using disposable tableware, so I highly recommend it!
