A Key to the Armoire - A Personal Style Blog by Susana Fernandez

This black and white outfit was what I wore for New Year’s Eve in New York. The combination of these colors, together with the organza bow that I added to my black turtleneck, reminded me of a Pierrot, hence today’s title.

The pieces that I am wearing are all separates, but work well together for a formal look. As I mention in my “Keys to Style”, a formal look is not limited to only wearing a dress. Well-styled separates are a wonderful option that offer lots of possibilities for variation.

As you may notice on my tags, particularly on Instagram, I am starting to feature #akeytosustainablestyle as a way to create awareness about timeless style and endless ways to reuse and restyle your clothing, as well as the importance of buying natural fibers, and purposeful and mindful styling.

Today, for example, I am wearing a vintage jacket from the 90s, a vintage belt from the 80s that belonged to my mom, as well as an antique sterling silver clutch, which was, originally, a playing cards box from an Italian oceanliner’s first class in the 30s.

I hope to delve a bit more into why I support sustainable style in future posts, but for now, I hope you enjoy this party look as much as I enjoyed styling it!
